First Decade (2000-2010)
During the first decade of taekwondo being a part of the Olympics there were a total of nine gold medalists The first gold medal was won by Moon Dae-Sung of Korea in the mens over 80kg category in the year 2000 From there on athletes from different countries such as China Turkey Thailand and Mexico all won gold medals The most successful country during this period was Korea with four gold medals
Second Decade (2010-2020)
The second decade of taekwondo in the Olympics was equally as exciting as the first In this period there were a total of ten gold medalists The first gold medal of this decade was won by Servet Tazegul of Turkey in the mens 68kg category in the year 2012 This decade saw more diversity in the countries that won gold medals with athletes from Iran Ivory Coast Serbia and Jordan all winning for the first time Korea continued their dominance winning four more gold medals during this period
021 Tokyo Olympics
The 2021 Tokyo Olympics were the most recent addition to the history of taekwondo in the Olympics In this year there were a total of eight gold medalists This year saw an interesting addition to the sport with a mixed gender team event added for the first time The first gold medal of the year was won by Anastasija Zolotic of the United States in the womens 57kg category Korea once again dominated winning three out of the eight gold medals
